Guwahati, June 28 : Technology has its takers not only in the new generation kids but also among those groomed in age-old norms.

A priest in Kolkata is the latest example of a person trained in the old school of thought opting for the latest technology to execute his duties.

Somnath Chattopadhyay recently solemnised the wedding of Debasree Roy of Kolkata with Dhritiman Dutta of Silchar in Asom over the mobile phone after the weather gods decided to play spoilsport.

Dhritiman could not reach in time for his marriage on June 12 after all road and air communications were disrupted due to inclement weather.

It was when everyone was at their wit's end that priest Chattopadhyay came up with the proposal of conducting the marriage over the phone.

With the religious leader coming up with the idea, all assented to it immediately.

Chattopadhyay presided over the 40-minute ceremony at the Bhavatarini temple near Dakshineswar in Kolkata. Both the parties participated in the ceremony 'verbally' through three mobile phones connected to loudspeakers.

The bride flew to Silchar the next day after air traffic was restored and exchanged garlands.
