Manipur loses Rs 117 crores due to employees' strike

Imphal, June 28 (UNI) Manipur lost Rs 117 crore and appoximately two crore working hours due to the stir by about 55,000 government employees.

The employees, under the banner of the Joint Administrative Council (JAC), went on a strike on April 20 and resumed work today after signing an MoU with the government yesterday.

The JAC had called the stir demanding hike in pay and fulfilment of other demands.

According to the employees they had been irked with the 'lackadaisical' attitude of the government for the last several years.

The Prices of essented commodities rose in the state due to communication barriers and distance, the employees said.

The government had assured them to increase the Daily Allowance (DA) and give Non Practicing Allowance (NPA) to doctors, who had been demanding it.
