Isolated showers likely in State

Chennai, June 28 : The trough of low pressure over the east Arabian Sea, off north Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala coast, still persists, even as overcast skies and intermittent showers brought cheers to the people in various parts of Tamil Nadu.

Weather office sources told UNI here today that under its influence south west monsoon had become active.

Rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at most places in coastal Karnataka and at many places over Kerala, Lakshadweep, coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Interior Karnataka.

Isolated showers or thundershowers were likely to occur in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 24 hours.

Chennai is likely to witness cloudy skies with one or two showers or thundershowers.

Meanwhile, several parts of city experienced incessant rains last night and early this morning.

Several low-lying areas were inundated and the office-goers found it tough to wade trough the water-logged areas.

Though the rains abated, the sky remained overcast bringing relief to the people, who were reeling under intense heat wave during the last fortnight.

The temperature, which hovered around 100 F mark despite the end of ''Kathiri'' (peak summer) season, came down during the last two days following the low pressure.
