Indian firms make lowest bid in B'desh sugar tender
DHAKA, June 28 (Reuters) Indian firms V.K. Udyog and LMJ international on Wednesday both made similar offers of 9 per tonne in a Bangladesh tender to buy 25,000 tonnes white sugar for August shipment, traders and officials said.
The two Indian firms made the lowest offer among the three firms which participated in the tender floated by state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). The third participant was U.S.-based Cargill Inc., which offered 9 and 1 per tonne.
TCB will announce its decision on the tender within a week, a senior officer of the corporation said.
Earlier this month, TCB issued separate tenders to import 25,000 tonnes, 12,500 tonnes and 25,000 tonnes of white sugar, due to close on June 28, July 2 and July 5, respectively.
The latest tender will close on July 10, and traders have to deliver the entire quantity by Aug. 24, 2006.
