Govt releases 40 lakh MTs of free sale sugar quota for July-Sept

New Delhi, Jun 28 (UNI) To maintain the retail prices of sugar at reasonable levels, the Government today released 40 lakh metric tonnes (MTs) of sugar as free sale quota for the quarter July to September 2006, five lakh MTs tonnes higher than the last year's quota for the corresponding period.

In addition to this, one lakh MTs of free sale sugar would also be released as festival quota for the month of September.

The free sale quota released for the month of July is 12 lakh MTs, which is required to be sold within the month.

In the wake of the enhanced quota, if the prices show any abnormal increasing trend, addition releases shall be made, an official release here said.
