Dr Rajat Kanta Ray new vice chancellor of Vishva Bharati

New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) Eminent academician Dr Rajat Kanta Ray will be the new Vice Chancellor of the Vishva Bharati university.

The President, who is a visitor of the university, approved his appointment to the office that fell vacant on June 26 following expiry of the five-year term of the previous Vice Chancellor Dr Sujit K Basu.

Dr Ray has been appointed for a period of two years.

Educated from Presidency College, Kolkata and Cambridge University, he has had about 32 years of teaching experience mainly at Presidency College, Kolkata, though he also served at institutions like Indian Institute of Management and Australian National University, Canberra, for short spells.

He has been working as Professor and Head of the Department of History, Presidency College, Kolkata, since 1981. He has a large number of Books and Articles to his credit published by the Oxford University Press and other reputed publishers.
