Dozen power companies keen to invest in Haryana

Chandigarh, Jun 28 (UNI) As many as a dozen leading companies including Reliance Energy Ltd have shown keen interest to invest in the power sector in Haryana.

Representatives from Starlite Industries, Tata Power, Aban Group, Jindal Steel and Energy Ltd, Lanco Group, Nav Bharat Ferro Alloys besides Reliance Energy came forward to make preliminary inquiries in a pre-bid conference of bidders held here yesterday.

The conference was presided over by the Power Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary R N Prasher.

Mr Prasher said efforts were on to add about 4,000 MW power during the next three to four years. He stated that nearly 2,000 MW capacity would be acquired through competitive bids.

In addition, a 1,000 MW coal-based thermal plant would be set at Mattenhall, Jhajjar, through competitive bidding route.

Almost all major groups in the field of power generation had purchased the bid documents, Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL) Managing Director Jyoti Arora said.

With a view to have interaction with the bidders and to reply to all types of queries, the HPGCL had convened the conference, she added.

She stated that requests had been received from most of the representatives to extend the last date of sale and submission of Request For Qualification (RFQ) document by a fortnight. While considering the request, the HPGCL has decided to extend the last date of submission of RFQ documents from June 29 to July 14.
