DMDK to contest Local Body polls in TN alone

Chennai, June 28 (UNI) The Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) will contest the coming local body election on its own as insistee by the cadres.

Informing this at a press conference after launching the Trade Union Wing of the party here, actor-turned politician and DMDK founder Vijayakanth, however, said the strategy of the party would be decided only after the announcement of the dates for the Local Body elections.

Though the trade union wing of the party existed in several districts of the state, the party would take steps to register them and ensure that the wing functioned in an effective manner, he added.

Referring to the ongoing struggle of the employees of the public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) to protest against the Union Government's move to disinvest ten per cent stake of the company, he said the DMDK's trade union wing would support the cause of NLC workers.

Mr Vijayakanth nominated Mr Velmurugan as President of the party's trade union wing.
