Congress Working Committee to discuss price rise

New Delhi, June 28 : The Congress Working Committee(CWC), the highest policy making body of the party, is meeting here tomorrow with the soul agenda to discuss the burning issue of spiralling prices.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, besides the members and permanent invitees to the CWC, will attend the meeting. There are altogether 20 members and 13 permanent invitees to the CWC.

The CWC meeting will begin at 1700 hrs at 10 Janpath, official residence of Mrs Gandhi, and will be followed by a press briefing, Congress Spokesman Rajeev Shukla told reporters here.

Asked whether Finance Minister P Chidmambaram would also attend the CWC meeting, he replied in the negative.

Replying to a question, Mr Shukla disagreed with the suggestion that the Congress and the Government held contrary views on price rise and said their views were identical. He also denied that the Congress President and the Prime Minister were adopting casual approach towards price rise.

The Congress Spokesman reiterated that the State Governments were equally responsible to take measures to arrest the rising prices.
