Criminal shot dead after he tries to flee from police custody

Hyderabad, Jun 28 (UNI) A history sheeter was shot dead in Cyberabad city limits as he tried to escape from police custody here today.

Police source said Kameshwar Rao who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a realtor's son was killed when he tried to escape from the police.

Rao had kidnapped a realtor's son and demanded Rs one crore as ransom. He released the boy after he was paid Rs 50 lakh by the property dealer.

Meanwhile, he lodged a complaint with LB Nagar police station.

On a tip off, a police team went to Gangavaram in Visakhapatnam yesterday and nabbed Rao. A pistol and Rs 36 lakh were seized from him.

On way back to city, the accused tried to flee from the police.

He snatched a pistol from a constable and started firing. In retaliation, the police opened fire and shot him dead, the police added.
