Counselling for SC/ST candidates from tomorrow

New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) The Delhi University's admission process for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes students will commence from tomorrow.

A University official said counselling for the SC/ST candidates will commence at 1000 hrs from Thursday.

''This is a centralised process and the first phase will commence tomorrow.... the University sends candidates to the specific colleges,'' he said.

Admission seekers, who could not make it to the university yesterday, thronged the campus on the second day of completing of the formalities.

Students, accompanied by their parents, had started queuing up their respective colleges much before the opening time to beat the crowd and complete the paper work in time.

Yesterday scores of students had failed to meet the deadline in the university due to rains and traffic jams.

Very few students had made it to the university as heavy rains lashed the capital till 1000 hrs followed by a series of gridlock all across the city.

After the announcement of the first cut-off list, the University earmarks the next three working days for completion of admission formalities and securing the seats. Several colleges generally work from 0930 hrs to 1230 hrs.

''I did not want to miss the deadline today so I started early from home. Yesterday I wasted all the time in a traffic jam. I am a proud DU student today,'' said Puja Khatri, who secured seat in Kirori Mal College's English department.

And late comers had to wait a while for their turn as the crowds kept swelling towards the closing time.

''I just managed to file my papers in the nick of time.... I had reached late but I was fortunate,'' said Purva Gupta who had to wait for his turn at the Bank extension counter for almost two hours.

The University will announce the second cut off list tomorrow.

Many colleges are not expected to be included in that list since they have filled all the seats.
