Bangalore, June 28 : Karnataka Deputy Speaker N Y Gopalakrishna today adjourned the Assembly amidst dharna by the Opposition Congress members, accusing the JD(S)-BJP coalition Government of discriminating in allocation of funds to constituencies of Opposition members for road development.

Leader of the Opposition N Dharam Singh led the dharna, stating that it would be withdrawn only after a categorical assurance from the Government to set right the lop sided allocation of funds.

This is the second time the House is witnessing a protest on the same issue.

Mr Singh said that though the Government had earlier assured to ensure release of funds when Opposition members pointed out the discrimination, the funds were not released.

The issue came up in the form of a question by Congress member M T B Nagaraju, who claimed that his constituency Hoskote had not received sufficient funds for development of Zilla Panchayat. He was joined by other Congress members.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister C M Udasi denied that there was any discrimination and said funds to the tune of Rs 83 crore had been released.

Some of the JD(S) and BJP members claimed that even during the past regime, there had been discrimination and said this Government alone should not be singled out.

This led to noisy scenes and the Congress members trooped to the well of the House, even after the Deputy Speaker wound up the question hour and started taking up mentions during zero hour. He wanted the members to resume their seat as Mr Udasi assured to take up the issue with the Chief Minsiter and the Deputy Chief Minister.

However, Mr Singh demanded a categorical reply from the Government, leading to the Chair adjourning the House.
