Mysore, June 28 (UNI) The four Lok Sabha members of South Western Railways (SWR) Division today urged the Union government to give priority to localites while taking up appointment of Group C and D employees in the Railways Department.

The four members, C H Vijyashankar (Mysore), Manjunath Konnur (Dharwad), BJP State Chief Sadananda Gowda (Mangalore) and D C Srikantappa (Chikmagalur) gave this information to reporters after attending a meeting convened by SWR General Manager Trilok Nath Perthi to discuss the railway projects here.

Mr Vijayashankar said localites were meted out with injustice while carrying out appointments and priority was being given to candidates hailing from North India and Tamil Nadu.

He said when they sought the list of the candidates for recruitment, Mr Perthi clarified that the recruitment was a national policy and the department had no role in it. He had also asked them to take up the issue with the Centre.

Mr Sadananda Gowda said the South Western Railway would throw open the Hassan-Mangalore line to public by October 31.

Mr Vijayshankar said the doubling of Mysore-Bangalore line would be taken up once the state government provided its share of funds to the Railways. The department had already taken up work between Bangalore-Kengeri and Ramanagaram.

He said three more reservation counters would be opened soon at the Mysore station.
