Attack on police team; policeman, assailant killed

Meerut, June 27 (UNI) A policeman and the father of the accused in the murder of a student leader were killed here today after the police team tried to arrest the assailant.

Sanjeev Gujjar, student leader of Chaudhary Charan Singh University was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the Nanakchand Anglo Sanskrit College campus this morning, police said. A property dispute was suspected to be behind the murder.

When the police team tried to arrest the accused Neeraj Mallik later in the evening at his residence in Jagriti Vihar here, his father Satyaveer Mallik fired at the team, killing a policeman Praveen Giri, police sources said.

Satyaveer Mallik too was killed in retaliation by the police team, sources added.

In connection with Gujjar's murder, FIR was registered against three persons.
