Youth dies under the wheels of Chariot

Kendrapada, Orissa, Jun 27 (UNI) A youth was crushed to death under the wheels of a chariot at Garadpur, about 22 kms from here, today.

Police said Santosh Kumar Das(27) from Raghavmandipur village had come to Garadpur to witness the Car festival when the mishap took place.

The chariot carrying Lord Jagannath, Lord Balavadr and Devi Subhadra had hardly moved 100 meters from the Garadpur Jagannath temple when Santosh was pushed in the melee and came under the wheels of the chariot. He died on the spot.

Immediately after the incident, the pulling of chariot was abandoned by the temple priest. The Chariot will be pulled tomorrow to its destination after necessary rituals, temple sources said Police later retrieved the body from the scene and sent it for post-mortem.
