New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) Police have arrested two extortionists, including an associate of dreaded criminal Jitender Kalla, after a brief encounter near Tughlaqabad in South Delhi.

Rajnish alias Bantu (26) and Amit Dabas (23) were arrested close to the Tughlaqabad Shooting Range yesterday while they were coming in a car from Surajkund side, according to the police.

The accused fired at the police party which signalled them to stop, and sped away. However, they were chased and caught.

A pistol, two cartridges and a knife were recovered from them.

Investigations revealed that Rajnish had helped Jitender Kalla, an accused in the murder of Satyawati College (Ashok Vihar) Union President Anil Bandana and the father of another union leader, Amit, escape from police custody at AIIMS in July 2004 where he was admitted.

Rajnish, who was evading arrest since December last year, would extort money from businessmen by squatting on vacant properties and Amit Dabas would assist him, police said.
