Chandigarh, June 27 : Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) S S Virk today claimed that a number of terrorists who had taken shelter in other countries were keen to return home.

''Five-six have come back after being extradited, while another ten odd who are in prisons in the US or other countries have given their consent to come back'', Mr Virk told mediapersons at the Press Club here.

Citing the example of Kuki and Sukhi who were deported from the US a few years back, he said the two had told the US authorities that they would like to return home, as an atmosphere of peace was now prevailing in Punjab. Likewise there were other militants who had expressed the same desire, he added, without naming the militants or the countries in which they were currently residing.

Regarding the terrorists in Pakistan, the DGP said there were five or six top ranking ones amongst them, but however, did not indicate whether they were keen to return home.

Regarding any recent terrorist activity in the state, he said that there was only one case -- a explosion in a bus near Jalandhar in which one person had died and several received injuries. He said that the terrorist responsible for this belonged to the Khalistan Zidabad Force (KZF), headed by Ranjit Singh Neeta, and he had been apprehended.

Elaborating on the Jalandhar incident, Mr Virk said that sulphur, potash and a few other chemicals were used for assembling the explosive device instead of RDX. ''Such explosions are of low intensity and the intention is just to create a scare in the public,'' he said.
