Suspended PSI arrested; remanded to 14 days judicial custody

Pune, June 27 (UNI) A local court today remanded to 14-day judicial custody a suspended PSI of CID Crime at Bhiwandi, Laxman Raghu Suryavanshi, for accepting a bribe of Rs 11 lakh from Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the fake inter-state multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.

Suryavanshi was arrested by the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) earlier today at Bhiwandi.

The CBI had searched his house and found incriminating documents to establish his involvement in the crime.

On July 15, 2002, Suryavanshi is alleged to have received an amount of Rs 11-13 lakh for Telgi's release when Telgi was found to be in possession of counterfeit stamps' in his car.

Suryavanshi is the 13th policeman and 68th accused to be arrested in the crime.

Public Prosecutor Raja Thackeray appearing for the CBI, asked for judicial custody of the accused, which was granted by first class Judicial Magistrate S G Ansari who gave the judical remand order upto 14 days.
