Stop military help to Sri Lanka: Ramadoss

Chennai, Jun 27: Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader Dr S Ramadoss, whose party is a constituent of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, today expressed shock over reports that India had started providing military capabilities to Sri Lanka and demanded that it be stopped.

In a statement here, Dr Ramadoss said he wished the report was incorrect. If it happened to be correct, it could not be accepted and India should make its position clear on the sensitive issue.

Stating the reports suggested that India had gifted radar to Sri Lanka to monitor fighter aircraft movements just as it supplied radar to Maldives and other neighbouring countries like Seychelles, Mauritius and Myanmar, he said India could not treat Sri Lanka and other countries on the same yardstick.

''India should not forget that the military capabilities will be used only against the Sri Lankan Tamils, who are fighting for their political and human rights,'' he said.

Dr Ramadoss said India's move has raised serious doubts in the minds of Tamils that it would only help the island government to kill the innocent people there.
