Raj govt alleged of underpaying relief labourers
Jaipur, June 27: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today accused the BJP government in Rajasthan of ''underpaying'' relief labourers engaged in drought relief work.
On her second day in the state, Ms Gandhi took stock of the drought relief work in Dudu 'tehsil' here in the district. She also visited the Bhojpur village.
Speaking to reporters, Ms Gandhi said the labourers were getting only Rs 47 instead of the stipulated Rs 73 as daily wages. The labourers were also not getting the ''promised wheat'' and were facing a number of other problems, she alleged.
Ms Gandhi also visited Bijalau and Narena villages and inquired about the problems in the villges. She said the villagers here were getting only nine days of work and Rs 50 as daily wage which is highly discriminatory. She assured the villagers that she would take up their cause with the authorities.
