Singapore for expanding trade ties with K'taka: Kumaraswamy

Bangalore, June 27 (UNI) The Singapore government has evinced keen interest in expanding business and industrial ties with Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has said.

An official release from the Chief Minister's office here today quoted Mr Kumaraswamy, who was on a two-day visit to Singapore, as saying that he had met Trade and Industries Minister Lin Hng Kiang and held discussions on trade related issues. Mr Kiang had evinced interest in expanding bilateral trade and investment ties with the state, he added.

Mr Kumaraswamy also delivered an address at meeting in which Mr Kiang, Indian High Commissioner to Singapore and the business community took part.

In his address, a copy of which was released to the Press here, Mr Kumaraswamy said ''Karnataka is on a threshold of a major transition. A transition that will enable it to play the leading role in the economic, social and industrial development of India. To play that role, it will require to achieve constant and significant rates of economic growth and continue to maintain an edge not just in the country, but also all over the region and provide conducive environment for both traditional and modern industry.'' He said it offered the best atmosphere and infrastructure to the foreign investors to set up their industry and business in the field of IT, bio-technology, agro food processing and metal based industries.
