New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Slum Rehabilitation Authority(SRA), Mumbai to issue letter of intent to M/s K.R. Developers so that work of developing and constructing dwelling units for JJ Clusters in West Mumbai may be started.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioners had pleaded before the bench comprising Justices A R Lakshmanan and Altamas Kabir that despite payment of Rs. 2.5 crores the earlier developer has not started the work and about 5000 families would be on the road under the open sky in the monsoon season.

The petitioners also pleaded that SRA was deliberately was not issuing letter of intent to the new developer and slum dwellers some of whom have already been removed have been displaced to rehabilitation sites where there are no basic amenities such as water and electricity. Last year's deluge in the commercial capital of India during last year's monsoon season is a rude reminder of miseries that these slum dwellers may have to face, the counsel further pleaded.

The court directed the SRA to issue the letter of intent within two weeks.
