Sahil Zaroo gets bail in Shatoosh shawl case

Mumbai, June 27 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to Sahil Zaroo, an accused in the Rahul Mahajan drug case, in the shantoosh shawls' smuggling case and a case relating to the violation of Wildlife (Protection) Act.

Earlier, as soon as Sahil got bail in the Marine Drive smuggling case, Maharashtra Forest Department (MFD) officials immediately moved another application seeking custody for interrogations in connection with violation of the Wildlife (Pprotection) Act.

Police Prosecutor Tahil Trambakwala argued that forest department wants to interrogate Sahil to recover the three shawls still missing and also to know from where he had procured them.

However, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode rejected the prosecution's demand because as per law, a person cannot be arrested twice in the same case.

Defence advocate Majid Memon, citing a Supreme Court judgement, said two FIRs (First Information Report) can not be registered against one person in the same case.

The Marine Drive police station had registered the smuggling case against Zaroo on March 13 this year after they raided the showroom in a five-star hotel. However, the police are yet to recover the Shatoosh shawls worth Rs two lakh.

Sahil was brought to Mumbai on June 22 after a Delhi court, where he was arrested in drug case alongwith Rahul Mahajan, had granted the three-day transit remand.

Mr Memon had also argued in Marine drive case in the morning that Sahil was falsely implicated in this case as section 380 of Indian Penal Code was not sustainable to him as the shop belonged to his father.

The court, granting the bail, fixed Rs Rs 25,000 as the bail amount and also asked him to undertake a personal bond of Rs 10,000.
