Mumbai, Jun 27: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL)'s 'Organised Retailing' foray, involving an investment of over Rs 25,000 crore, is set to generate over 500,000 jobs, especially to young boys and girls, in the next few years.

Stating this at the AGM of the company, RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani today said the organised retailing initiative already has 2,000 highly energetic and experienced professionals engaged with implementation plans for it and ''this number would soon swell to 10,000 as the initiative progresses''.

In this initiative, Mr Ambani said, as many as 500,000 young boys and girls would be recruited over the next years and they would be trained in customer service, behavioural traits, product knowledge and technology aspects. ''Our plan is to provide training and education opportunities on a distributed learning platform through classroom, e-learning and personalised coaching in a 'earn while you learn' framework,'' he said.

As a result of this effort, he continued, these five lakh young men and women would bring economic well-being to their families, value education to their homes and social transformation to their communities on a large scale.

In essence, Mr Ambani said, the retail initiative of Reliance is set to unleash a revolution with lower prices and better product quality for consumers, while at the same time to fetch better prices for farmers and producers. ''Just as information technology and communication enabled a new wave of urban and industrial prosperity, organised retailing will bring about a new wave of rural prosperity,'' affirmed he.
