Pre-monsoon rain brings relief to Delhiites

New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) For Delhiites reeling under hot and humid conditions for the last couple of days, a 70 mm per-monsoon rainfall brought some relief and respite today.

According to the weather office, while about 17.2 mm rain fall was recorded till 0830 hrs, another 52.4 mm was measured till 1430 hrs.

''At some places in North Delhi, it rained about 79.7 mm,'' said an IMD source adding that these were pre-monsoon whowers.

Today's rainfall, which last for nearly two-and-a-half hours, brought down temperatures by about six degrees as compared to yesterday's 36.6 degress Celsius.

Predicting the arrival of monsoon ''in time'', barring an exception of a day or two, the IMD said mostly it is expected at its scheduled date on June 29.

While minimum temperature for the day was 21.5 degree Celsius, which was eight degrees below normal, the maximum temperature predicted for tomorrow is 33.0 degrees-six below normal.

Generally cloudy sky with rains or thunder showers is anticipated for the next 24 hours. Heavy rains are also expected at some places, the IMD added.
