PMK advocates reservation in defence, sports, judiciary, media

Lucknow, Jun 27 (UNI) Demanding implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher education from next academic session, Paattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a political party in Tamil Nadu today, advocated similar reservation in defence, judiciary, sports and media.

PMK president S Ramadoss, who is on a country-wide tour to seek political support for OBC reservation, said his party would support reservation in sports, defence, judiciary and even in media.

Addressing a news conference here, Dr Ramadoss said backwards had constitutional right to get reservation in all sectors, even though it had been delayed for the last 51 yrs.

PMK wlll hold a national seminar on 'Social Justice to OBCs' in New Delhi on July 2 to put pressure on the government for early implementation of the proposal.

Dr Ramadoss said as per indication, the centre would be bringing a bill in this regard in the coming monsoon session of Parliament.

He said Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was also supporting the proposed policy.

The union minister hoped Mr Yadav would attend the July 2 seminar where former prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh will be the chief guest. The PMK president is also expected to meet Mr Yadav today.

''I have written to all the CMs of the country to pass a resolution in their respective state assemblies urging the centre to implement 27 per cent reservation to OBCs,'' he added.
