Srinagar, June 27 (UNI) The main opposition National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir today urged the CBI to take suo motu cognizsance of a media report suggesting that the party had approached two Hindi news channels for filming ministers in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government ''in action'' in sex racket in 2004.

''We want to set the record straight that the NC never got into any such contract and the party does not believe in indulging in such sleazy politics. Also, the NC has never indulged in petty machinations to unnecessarily malign anybody in the political spectrum,'' an NC spokesman said in a statement here.

He sought to clarify that the NC had no clue about any racket operating in 2004 and if it had known the party would have, without any fear, raised the issue at that point of time in an appropriate forum.

''We are forced to believe that the state CID and the political advisors of Mr Sayeed must have fed him with this concocted story of the NC's alleged role of involving any news channel for filming ministers in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed regime in action in a bid to play to his fear of losing power.'' ''If the report is correct then why did the former Chief Minister prefer to maintain silence on the issue and also why was the whole issue pushed under the rug?'' the spokesman asked.

He said this raised the issue of political morality and dishonesty against the former Chief Minister who should be made accountable for his silence and being a party to the scandal.

The NC will also request the CBI, which is probing the sex racket case, to take suo motu notice of the media report and include it in the gambit of its investigations, the spokesman added.

He also urged the CBI to probe the then CID chief's brief to Mr Sayeed and ''bring the facts to light''.

The media report had stated that then CID Chief Dr Ashok Bhan had allegedly briefed Mr Sayeed who had also learnt from his political sources that the NC had approached two Hindi news channels with the ''contract'' of filming the then ministers ''in action'' in the sex racket in 2004.
