Nalini's family pleads to Sonia for visa for daughter

Chennai, June 27 (UNI) Family members of Nalini, the life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, today appealed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the UPA government at the Centre to grant a visa to her daughter to pursue her studies here.

Even as Nalini and her husband Sriharan alias Murugan, resumed their fast at the Vellore Central Prison, Nalini's mother Padma and brother S Bagyanathan, appealed to Ms Gandhi to help Harithra get a student visa.

Bagyanathan, who was also an accused in the case, but was acquitted along with his mother, told UNI the Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka, although had not denied a visa, had been evasive when Harithra approached them for one.

He said after great difficulty, the family secured admission for Harithra at a Christian Mission school here and obtained a bonafide certificate from the school for applying for a students visa, but the Embassy was delaying the matter.

''Whenever Harithra, her grand parents and aunt approach the Indian Embassy, they are asked to wait for sometime,'' he said and requested the Indian government to prevail upon the Embassy to grant the visa.
