Bhopal, June 27 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today decided to slightly amend a provision that made a person with more than two offspring ineligible for appointment to a government post.

A cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here, reconsidered a 2000 amendment -- made during the predecessor Congress regime -- to Rule 6 of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Service Rules, 1961. Henceforth, two deliveries and not two children would be the eligibility criterion in view of the possibility of twins.

A few persons had even moved court challenging the provision.

The meeting decided to enhance the Governor's discretionary grants quota. The cabinet approved Prof Pradeep Joshi's appointment as Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission chairman and that of Member Shobha Pethankar.

General category candidates would be considered for promotion to the post of Chief Engineer, Public Works, in view of the lack of reserved category candidates.
