MFEO seeks Kalam's intervention on reservation for OBCs

New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) The Medicos Forum For Equal Opportunities has sought President A P J Abdul Kalam's intervention for stopping the ''victimisation'' of reserved category students and doctors in several medical colleges, including AIIMS, in the national capital.

In a six-point memorandum, a MFEO delegation urged Dr Kalam for prompt action in specific against discrimination.

Claiming that the UPA government had adopted a ''vacillating attitude'' on reservation, it alleged that the stand had fuelled upper caste chauvinism.

''It must act to ensure strict implementation of reservation for SC/ST and OBC at the earliest,'' it said.

The delegation demanded that the Government fulfil its promise of increasing the number of seats in higher education sOh that the interest of general category students are also safeguarded.

The memorandum said the role of AIIMS Director P Venugopal in abetting and encouraging the anti-reservation agitation should be investigated.

''Strictest action as per the law be taken against him,'' it added.

It also demanded that anti-people hike in user charges for patients at AIIMS be withdrawn immediately.

The delegation, comprising Sub Dean Dr Sunil Chumber, Dr P K Rathore, Dr Murmu, Dr Anoop Saraya and Dr Vikas Bajpai, apprised the President of specific instances of discrimination against the reserved category doctors and students.
