Meghalaya Deputy Speaker expunges Indpendent MLA

Shillong, Jun 27 (UNI) Meghalaya Deputy Speaker P M Muktieh today expunged the word used by Independent MLA Manas Chaudhuri recently on the appointment of Parliamentary Secretary and Deputy Secretary as ''unproductive'' and termed it as political appointee only.

A point of order was raised by United Democratic Party MLA Riang Lenon Tariang on this issue to expunge the word as it hurt the sentiments of some members of the house.

Mr Chaudhuri, however, reitereted that the word expressed by him was not ''unparliamentary'' and it was not his intention to hurt anybody.

However, Deputy Speaker Muktieh expunged the word from the proceedings of the Assembly as he felt that it hurt the sentiments of some members.
