London policeman shot in shoulder

LONDON, June 27 (Reuters) Police arrested two men after a policeman was shot in the shoulder during a surveillance operation in northeast London today, Scotland Yard said.

The injury was not life-threatening, and the officer, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition.

The injured policeman and another male officer, both part of Scotland Yard's Violent Crime Directorate, were conducting the operation in the Waltham Forest area when the shot was fired at around 2060 hrs (IST).

The arrested men were being held at London police stations.

Police said they were also seeking other individuals in connection with the incident.
