Killer PAC jawan still absconding

Varanasi, June 27 (UNI) The Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawan, who shot dead two colleagues and wounded three others in the Naxal affected Naugarh area of adjoining Chandauli district on Sunday is still absconding.

Chandauli SP Rajiv Chaturvedi said police teams were still combing the jungle, where Lakshman Ram, jawan of 25th PAC Batallion, had fled after opening fire in the Aurwatand PAC camp.

Teams in search of the 'mentally ill' jawan had also been sent to his native district of Ballia in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The jawan undergoing mental treatment at Ranchi (Jharkhand), since 2000 had opened fire at the PAC camp following a petty dispute with colleagues, Mr Chaturvedi said.

Two jawans including Jogindar Saroj from H company of the 26th PAC Batallion and Daya Ram Yadav from the UP Armed Police were killed and three PAC personnel including Shivdhari Thakur, Moti Lal and Akhilesh Prasad were critically wounded.

They were later admitted to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital here. Their condition was said to be stable.
