Kerala to restore SC reservation for children of intercaste parents

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 27 (UNI) Kerala will bring in new legislation to restore SC reservation benefits to the children of intercaste parents belonging to that category, state SC and ST Welfare Minister A K Balan told the State Assembly today.

Replying to a Calling Attention Motion by K B Ganesh Kumar (KC-B), he said the legislation was aimed at making available the SC reservation benefits to the children of intercaste parents, if any one of them belonged to the SC.

Though the Supreme Court in its order had restricted the reservation benefits to the children of intercaste parents, the government had already issued necessary orders restoring the financial reservation and there was no hurdle in getting caste certifcate, he said.

Currently the reservation benefits were denied to the children of intercaste parents in which the mother belonged to SC, as only the father's caste was considered for issuing certificate proving their caste, he added.

The Left Democratic Front government was committed to ensure the reservation to all sections of SC/ST, he added.
