Srinagar, June 27 (UNI) Hundreds of employees braved water-canon and mild baton-charge by police as they continued with their protests against the Jammu and Kashmir government's ''inaction in resolving their genuine problems'' on the second day today.

Dozens of protesting employees were later arrested and taken to the Shaheed Ganj Police Station here.

About 200-300 employees, under the banner of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), gathered once again at the Civil Secretariat, the seat of the Jammu and Kashmir government, here early this morning.

They started shouting slogans and criticised the state government for not meeting their long-pending demands.

The protesters claimed the state government had failed to solve the genuine demands of the daily wagers and the permanent employees.

''Even Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has not kept his promise of resolving our problems,'' they shouted.

Police later arrested some of the slogan-shouting employees and took them to the Shaheed Ganj Police Station.

This prompted their colleagues to stage even more noisy protests, forcing the police to use baton-charge and water-canon against the protestors.

Today was the second day of the proposed five-day protest programme by the government employees. The EJAC said it would continue with its protest despite repression by the authorities.
