Fresh batch of 2269 pilgrims leve for Amarnath

Jammu, June 27: A fresh batch of 2,269 pilgrims left today for the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir amid tight security in the wake of recent threats and attacks on devotees.

The group, which left from the base camp here, included 493 women and 105 children, officials said.

Despite threats and attacks from terrorist outfits, a large number of pilgrims go for the ''darshan'' of ice lingam of Lord Shiva at the holy cave in the Himalayas.

The pilgrims left in a fleet of 71 vehicles, 45 buses and 26 light motor vehicles from the base camp at 0500 hrs.
