Final draft of Environmental Impact Assessment guidelines ready

New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) Keeping in view the increasing environmental concern of citizens over the way major constructions and other projects were being executed, the public hearing system will be given special attention in the new Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) guidelines.

Disclosing this to reporters here today, Secretary Environment Pradeepto Ghosh said the final draft notification was ready and it will be presented to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on July six.

''We hope the guidelines will be finally cleared and we will have new system in force soon.'' A lot of changes have been made in the existing guidelines, and the most important of them was strengthening and streamlining the public hearing system, he said.
