Delhi BJP protests price hike
New Delhi, Jun 27 (UNI) Ridiculing official sale of tomatoes for Rs 20 a kg, the BJP today challenged Delhi's Congress government to ensure similar supply of other food items, and through Mother Dairy outlets, to the common man burdened with the price spiral.
''It is not just tomatoes that have become costlier. Prices of other vegetables, pulses, sugar, flour and rice etc too have gone up. Nobody is impressed by the official drama of selling tomatoes at Rs 20 a kg at four mandis, targeting a population of 15 million people,'' Delhi BJP unit chief Harsh Vardhan said.
Addressing a protest meeting organised by the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha near ITO, he claimed that the government had not taken any concrete step to bring down the prices.
''Had the government been really serious about the price hike, then it would have arranged sale of cheap ration and vegetables at Mother Dairy outlets,'' he said.
The protestors said they wanted to march to the Secretariat and gherao the Chief Minister, but were prevented by police from doing so.
