Dacoits assault couple, loot valuables

Belgaum, June 27 (UNI) An eight member armed gang struck at a farmhouse near Kudachi town of Raibag taluk in this district, looted cash and gold ornaments together amounting to Rs 2.5 lakhs after threatening and assaulting the inmates.

According to police, the gang attacked farmhouse owner Bhupal Patil when he came out to answer nature's call during early hours today. When he raised an alarm, his wife came out and she too was attacked by the gang.

After assaulting couple they took them into the farmhouse and threatened them to part with cash and gold ornaments, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police visited the spot and a dog squad was pressed into service. The dacoits were in the age group of 25 to 38 and were conversing in Kannada and Hindi, police added.
