CPWD Executive Engineer arrested for accepting bribe

New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Executive Engineer of the CPWD from R K Puram area in South Delhi for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for releasing a pending contract work bill.

Dal Chand Gupta, an Executive Engineer of the 'Q' Division of the CPWD, had demanded Rs 25,000 for releasing a four lakh rupees bill of a contract work which had already been executed, according to the CBI.

Searches at his office and residential premises resulted in the recovery of Rs 17,000 in cash, PPF investment worth Rs 21.5 lakh, Post Office Savings of Rs 65,000, shares worth Rs 4.55 lakh, two Demat Accounts at HDFC Bank, several Mutual Fund Certificates and documents relating to construction of a house in Faridabad.

He was remanded to 14-day judicial custody today.
