Capt Shashi Bhushan Singh cremated
Gangtok, Jun 27 (UNI) Captain Shashi Bhushan Sharma, who was killed by militants in a counter insurgency operation near Ratnipura village in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, was cremated today with full military honour at Ranipoll cremation ground.
His father Rameswar Singh lit the pyre after the traditional rituals and guard of honour was presented by the troops of the Black Cat Division in the presence of hundreds of mourners.
Many people burst into tears as the military personnel honoured the departed hero with gun salute.
Wreaths were placed on behalf of the Chief of Army staff, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command, GOC 33 Corps, GOC 17 Mountain Division and Station Commander Gangtok Garision.
Brigadier R K Aroa, Officiating General Officer Commanding, 17 Mountain Division and Station Commander Gangtok Garrision led the mourners.
Sikkim Minister for Animal Husbandry Kalawati Subba and Human Resource Development Minister G M Gurung, senior police officers and state government officials were present.
Army sources said Captain Singh (26) has received three injuries on his body--hand, neck and lower part of the chest during the anti-insurgency operation at Pulwama on June 23.
Captain Singh was posted in Jammu and Kashmir since 2003 with the 236 Engineers Regiment of the Bengal Sappers.
