State all set for first phase of civic polls

Hyderabad, June 27 : The stage is set for the first phase of elections tomorrow to Panchayat Raj bodies across 11 districts amidst tight security as Maoists have called for poll boycott and a bandh on the polling day.

Talking to UNI, State Election Commission secretary G N Rao said the election machinery was fully geared for the polls and added that ballot papers were moved to Mandals from the district headquarters amidst tight security.

More than 1.98 crore people are expected to exercise their franchise in 25,831 polling stations to decide the electoral fortunes of 2126 candidates for 572 ZPTC seats and 23,000 candidates for 7915 MPTC seats in the first phase.
