Ahmedabad, June 26 (UNI) Wigan&Leigh College (WLC)(India), part of the 150-year-old Wigan&Leigh College, UK, the largest professional education institution funded by the British Government, today announced the establishment of six additional campuses in India.

These new six campuses are Srinagar, Jammu, Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Ranchi and Goa. The inaugural academic session at these college campuses begin in August this year WLC (India) Chairman Vinay Pasricha said here.

Mr Pasricha said, ''These campuses shall be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for study, research, self-improvement through books, published material, internet and the eletronic media.

They shall also be professionally furbished with computers and design studios, media centres and fashion lab.'' He said, ''Our objective is to provide globally-recognised education to students across the country. We believe in offering an access to international quality education to young people in every corner of India and to enhance human resources base of every region.'' The WLC, India, has a dynamic expansion programme and the opening of these new centres of professional learning marks only the beginning. In a significant stride forward, the college shall establish fifteen new campuses, which shall open their doors to students across the country by August next year. They shall be located in prominent cities of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and Assam.

WLC UK Director of International Operations Dr Trevor Ashton said, ''I welcome the WLC's (India) extensive expansion programme. The College has matched and maintained global standards both in the content and delivery of education to its students.'' ''The college has partnered leading Indian and multinational organisations to offer this opportunity to students. Along with pursuing the course, students get to work with one of our industry partners and are paid an attractive stipend. Apart from providing work-related skills with the course, the traineeship programme helps students to get jobs at the end of the courses,'' Pasricha said.

WLC (India) offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses in business, advertising and graphic design, media studies, and fashion technology. The institute gives scholarships to postgraduate and undergraduate students to do the last semester in the UK, he added.
