VHP sore over 15 per cent funds for Muslims

Chandigarh, June 26 (UNI) Taking strong exception to the UPA government's reported move to earmark 15 per cent funds for Muslims in the next five-year plan, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today warned it would not tolerate ''conspiracy to divide the country by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.'' VHP national secretary and former Bajrang Dal chief Surendra Jain said it was for the first time in India and even the world that such a percentage of the national plan funds was reserved for one particular community and the move could have ''disastrous consequences''.

Terming the move as ''divisive,'' Mr Jain alleged former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru presided over the Partition of India in 1947 and now Ms Gandhi would be responsible for another division of the country.

He said the VHP had also taken strong notice of the government's decision to give special attention to the welfare of minorities after eruption of riots anywhere in the country.

The VHP would not tolerate this ''divisive politics'' and would resort to all ''democratice means'' to oppose it, he warned.
