Versace cheers for show-stopping World Cup

MILAN, June 26 (Reuters) The World Cup today stopped the show for Versace as fashionistas watched Italy and Australia on a screen at the end of the catwalk and Donatella Versace herself only reluctantly broke away from the game.

Amid cries of ''Mamma Mia'', hands clasped over heads and spontaneous applause, the giant screen was eventually removed to allow the display of the spring-summer 2007 menswear collection to start -- with a delay.

After giving Reuters a brief backstage interview, platinum-haired Donatella Versace ran off to catch the rest of the game, bursting into a small room with a TV while shouting: ''What's been happening?'' In one of the World Cup's most dramatic games, Italy won 1-0 with a last-minute penalty from Francesco Totti.
