Jabalpur, June 26 (UNI) JD(U) President Sharad Yadav today held ''wrong policies'' of the UPA government responsible for spiralling price rise in the country.

Mr Yadav told reporters here that the UPA Government hiked fuel prices six times in a span of nearly three years.

''Materials of daily consumption are getting out of reach from poor and middle-class people due to price rise,'' he said.

Elaborating the reasons behind the price rise, Mr Yadav said the Centre's policies -- including allowing private sector in Foodgrain Storage and changing the Food Security Policy -- were responsible for the price rise.

He claimed that during the NDA rule, there was stability in the price level and the country had started exporting foodgrains after achieving self-sufficiency.

Mr Yadav said India was the second-largest wheat exporter and third-largest rice exporter in the world four years ago.

However, the situation has reversed now and the Centre was importing wheat.
