UN must intervene for Saddam release: Bhim singh
Jammu, June 26: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party chief and chairman of the eleven member Indian advocates' committee for the defence of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussain, Professor Bhim Singh has urged UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to intervene for the immediate release of the deposed leader.
In a statement, Prof Singh expressed full support and solidarity with the people of Iraq and called for an end to ''the bloodshed and anarchy created by the United State's occupation.'' Condemning the occupation of Iraq by the US army, in violation of the UN charter, he also appealed to the international jurists fraternity and human rights advocates to take up the matter to the UN to stop the violation of the rule of law.
