Threat of water-borne diseases loom large over Kashmir

Srinagar, June 26 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government today asked the people to take precautions as the threat of outbreak of water- borne diseases loom large during the coming monsoon season.

An official spokesman said that in view of the likehihood of increase in water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea and jaundice during summer, the health department has advised the people to take various precautions.

The people have been asked to boil drinking water for at least ten minutes and wash raw vegetables and fruits thoroughly before eating, he added.

The spokesman said the people have been urged to wash hands with soap after going to toilet and before eating.

They should use chlorine tablets one per bucket of 20 litres and let it remain for at least half an hour before use, he added.

The spokesman said in case of any emergency, the people should contact the nearest health centre.
