SSC student commits suicide
Mumbai, June 26 (UNI) A 16-year-old student of Vani Vidyalaya in Mulund (W) in north eastern Mumbai committed suicide after her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results were declared today.
According to police sources, Rajlakshmi Muttu, a resident of Shakti Chawl in Mulund's Indira Nagar area set herself afire after she got home from school where she had gone to get her score card.
When she got home, she told her father she secured 52 per cent and immediately afterwards, she went to her kitchen and poured kerosene over her and burnt herself. She received cent per cent burns and was admitted to Mulund General Hospital, where doctors pronounced her brought dead, police said.
Her parents, who spoke to the police told them Rajlakshmi was expecting a place in the merit list failing which, she might have taken the drastic step, police sources added.
The Mulund police is investigating the case.
