Sena maintains control over graduates constituency
Mumbai, June 26 (UNI) Shiv sena has succeeded in maintaining its stronghold over the graduate's constituency of Mumbai as sena candidates Dr Deepak Sawant won the seat by securing 20,055 votes.
According to election department sources, independent candidate Atulkumar Shah secured 9606 votes while Congress candidate Amarjeet Manhas was trailing behind.
However, the shiv sena-BJP supported candidate of Madhyamik Shikshak Parishad Suresh Upadhye, could not retain the seat which was won by Sanjivani Raikar for last three terms.
Journalist turned politician Kapil Patil of Lok Bharati won the seat by scoring 3682 votes while Balasaheb Mhatre of Congress got 2495 votes. Mr Upadhye trailed to fourth position.
Sena veteran Pramod Navalkar had won from the Mumbai graduates constituency for three terms since 1988.
